What is copper tripeptide-1?
Copper tripeptide (GHK-Cu) is a peptide containing the glycyl-histidyl-lysine amino acid sequence, which binds to copper ions to exert its effects. This combination of peptides and copper ions penetrates the deeper layers of the skin, where it stimulates collagen production and intervenes in many cell processes. These peptides are very small molecules, with great skin penetrating capacity, since they adhere to the copper ions and deliver them through multiple layers.
Over the years, the hair follicle regeneration process slows down as a result of decreased blood supply. This fact, along with the active biological metabolites of the hormone testosterone (DHT) responsible for androgenic alopecia, obstructs hair growth, causing miniaturisation of the hair follicles and gradual thinning of the hair.
What is the mechanism of action of copper tripeptide-1?
GHK-Cu, patented by Loren Pickart, has been shown to be one of the substances that slows and reverts follicle miniaturisation: it intervenes in skin and scalp renovation by passing through the new cells of the skin and hair follicle and migrating towards the adjacent skin.
The action of copper tripeptide can reverse the natural ageing process of the skin and hair follicles, characterised by fine, miniaturised hair, in longer telogen phases.
During World War II it was seen that patients with severe burns also suffered a widening of the hair follicles that grew around the burnt skin. Posteriorly, Pickart discovered that GHK-Cu not only stimulated the healing of wounds but also increased the size of the hair follicle. Hence, it was discovered for the first time that copper peptides stimulate hair growth as a consequence of the natural increase in the health and vitality of the hair follicle.
The ability of copper tripeptide to stimulate hair growth on one hand causes increased proliferation of the follicular cells, and on the other reduces programmed follicle cell death.
A healthy skin and scalp, the healing of skin wounds, general soft tissue repair, and hair growth involve many biological processes such as maintenance of the extracellular matrix, increased blood flow (angiogenesis), cell proliferation, and hair synthesis. Copper is essential for many of the aforementioned processes, and numerous investigations have shown that this metal in the form of copper peptides stimulates these biological processes - resulting in more viable hair follicles and significant hair growth.

What hair products contain copper tripeptide-1?
Copper tripeptide-1 is a very exclusive ingredient, and formulations containing it are not yet widely found in Europe. Since the synthesis of this peptide requires latest generation technologies, it is very costly and difficult to obtain. However, some hair products have started to add copper tripeptide-1 to their formulations. This is the case of HAIR REGENERATOR SERUM MAINTENANCE from REDENHAIR, the new serum in spray format containing copper tripeptide-1 as well as many other active ingredients dissolved in a rosemary water lotion, carefully selected due to their beneficial effects for hair health.
If you are thinking about adding copper to your hair routine, trust HAIR REGENERATOR SERUM MAINTENANCE! It is a product that protects the hair and cuticles, and avoids the keratin degradation caused by external agents.
