All plants have stem cells. Unlike animals cells, however, each plant cell has the potential to change the shape and function of a stem cell and become a completely new plant. PhytoCellTec™ is a new biotechnology used successfully to generate and culture plant stem cells. With this technology, it is possible to induce the growth of callus cells in plant tissues selected under special conditions. These callus cells are undifferentiated plant elements, in other words, stem cells. The next step consists of a large-scale culture of these stem cells in bioreactors specially developed to obtain larger amounts of plant stem cells.
